The Sunday Times Rich List came out on the 7th May and revealed that over a quarter of the top 100 richest people in the UK list property as a major source of their wealth.
164 of the top 1,000 richest people have made their money from property and are worth £143.7bn collectively. Financiers, of which there are 10 in the top 100, are worth £65.2bn collectively.
As the value of property in the UK now stands at over £5tn, up from just over £1tn in 1995, there is still a significant amount to be made from investing in property. Nearly 60% of the UK’s entire net wealth is property and with average prices increasing by 6.2% over the last year investing in property will give you good returns both in terms of rental yields in the short term and capital growth in the long term.
